Research of the ' Obession genre
This film is called the seasons of obsession, gathering from the opening sequence two main characters based on the universal genre of being obsessed with darkness. The director of the short film shows various way to portray this message across by the audience . The way in which he presents this is by a number of methods. The first method he uses to capture an obsession in the opening sequence is by using music very fast music to lure the audience in as it is very fast you know that story will move in a face pace symbolising events will occur in which significantly will be about the obsession of the stranger to one of the characters which is why she eventually killed her sister. Also when the man is introduced there is an close up of just his face , the director uses this to capture in the characters eyes all what she can see, think and dream of at that moment in time , dominating the camera to suggest the stranger is the main focus point in the camera. Also the director shows an obsession between the characters to some extent as he always shows them together in every shot to emphasise the closeness and the relationship between each other to show that they are alike. He also uses fast actions in both of the characters to suggest that they are obsessed with movement together as in almost everyshot they both move at the same pace, in which the audience feel that they will need to keep up with this pace to follow on with the rest of the opening sequence. Also the voice over plays a part by presenting the audience with some background information which mite reveal the causes in which why they are so obsessed.
Another film in which shows obsession is a short film called Crazy Hands which shows the obsession of a particular man in which his hands wont stop moving and flickering in which he isn't in control of
In the opening scene we can see a medium close up showing just his face and some of his body, then the camera pans across to this hands to show that even when he is sleeping he has an obsession to move his hands constantly which the audience can gather than he has had this for a very long period of time which comes across to the audience as unusual but intruiges the audience to how he developed this obsession. Also the scenery also helps the short film as it is located in a dull and cliche old house which enebles movement of the man's hands to highlight with power the key topic when we are also watching. The director uses many cutterways shots which are good to show some sort of importance and meaning towards the shot, even to an extent that the character can't even wash his hands properly without his hands constantly interacting. Also facial expressions add to the main topic which is obsession as he uses match on action, match on reaction etc to portray the feelings of this character and how he feels for this obsession that he has. Dialogue is similarly used to also present feelings and to also emphasise the power of how it affects him in which we see him moaning to an extent as we can imagine/feel his emotions of these odd hands that keep moving.
I have analysed the way that the director has used the theme obsession in which he has presented towards the audience, this is useful for our group as we can then use ideas and encorporate it into our on opening sequence effectively
