The opening sequence for 'Ali' montage is effective as it brings various parts of the film together in one short clip varying from the character running on the streets to a jazz performance in a nightclub. Immediately as we enter the opening sequence we are shown many pictures of boxers etc. We question that ifb the protagonist wants to be a boxer? or what has boxing have to do with the character.? Many things are revealed to us that it is set in the period where segregation against black and white people still existed as in the bus scene there was a sign stating ' no blacks allowed'. Various pictures are collaberated such as a picture of someone painting jesus with a little boy in the background which could emphasise that the society is very religeous or alternatively it could represent a father figure as there are many flashbacks of boxing and art feature. In addition that are many intruiging camera shots such as the cutterway of the main protaganists eyes with flashing lights in the background to represent that everything he does he is also in the spotlight of it etc, which makes us ask why would he be in the spotlight? or maybe a journey seen through the characters eyes from his perspective. Soundtrack is used for effect as diagetic on screen as a voice over then halfway turned into a soundtrack which could be symbolic of the music of their generation for example. By asking all of these questions we can see that 'Ali' is a good opening sequence.
