8 1/2

In 8 1/2 it is made effective as it is the making of earyness being unconfortable to the audience. Immiadiately we can see that it is set in black and white represent that it is old. The director chooses to set the scene in cars in which us as the audience begin to question why he does this such as what is the purpose for it for be set in cars?, maybe it could forshadow the fact that he is tied down and he has no control over his feelings and also the situation. We wanted for our film for our character to feel the same way as this as it would highlight the theme of being trapped by her family and also being obsessed in which she battles through being trapped. We could also use the lighting of this short film but it may portray a negative image in which the audience may get the wrong impression as she want to portray a happy message rather than sad. We want to do this because the end of the film it is about her conquering her dreams in which we want to use bright colours to represent her glimmer of hope. So in a sense we can use this short film but just change the storyline and context.

The director reveals to us that it was a dream which is a good effective way to open a sequence because it is filmed from one persons point of view which can then be contrasted throughout the rest of the story etc. This may not be a good idea as the use of a dream style opening sequence is very common and overused. It also shows no quality and creativity in which by planning looking at different short films and gathering ideas we can do this.

The use of music is also key to this opening sequence as it is very tense with the tempo as it is constantly changing to create suspense and to sum extent reaches a climax to tell the story. We could use this as an suggestion for a climax in the story as maybe her family member may come inside in an unexpected way to add pace and tension gradually mounting in which we can show through our music.
